So Venus transited across the face of the Sun and Ray Bradbury took his final trip into the gaping cosmic yawp, but those weren’t the only stratospheric things happening to DMV residents this week - if you were lucky enough to hold a golden ticket into Verizon on Sunday, you could also watch Radiohead put on yet another brain-melting, heart-wrenchingly good, though wildly eccentric show. Looking for accessibility, easy anthems, your favorite song from The Bends? Keep moving, pal, because Radiohead is not here to play the hits. They’re here to make art all over your face, with a concert that is as much visual spectacle as it is music - they’ve moved on, evolved, and they want you to do so as well.
It's in print now so I can't really hide from my initial disdain of Radioheads The King Of Limbs. But I have come around to it a bit, so at least it's listenable now. I'll wait until I get my vinyl package delivered to make my final FINAL decision on the album.
Either way though, people dig it, and now they've released to extra tracks. Supercollider and The Butcher aren't meant to be a part of the album, but to be sure they came out of the same intellectual miasma that produced the bands newest record.
So there you have it. New NEW Radiohead.
Radiohead - Supercollider
Radiohead - The Butcher
It had had to happen eventually. Like Wilco and the Hold Steady before them (Wilco (The Album) and Heaven is Whenever respectively), Radiohead has gone and dropped the most disappointing album of their career.
But is it BAD?
That’s a really hard question to answer.
Let’s start with the obvious. Clocking in at just under 40 minutes the album is snoozer. And by that I mean it’s BORING. The truth of the matter is that you could lay Yorke’s voice over a f@#@ing Ace of Bass track and it would sound fantastic. But it wouldn’t be good....
"It's Friday... It's almost the weekend...It's a full moon....
You can download 'The King of Limbs' now if you so wish!
Thank you good people for waiting ... Have a great weekend wherever you are....
Hot on the heals of Arcade Fire's win last night comes this news:
THE NEW RADIOHEAD ALBUM IS DONE AND COMING OUT THIS SATURDAY!!!!!
I for one couldn't be more excited. Radiohead is a band that has continued to evolve throughout their carreer and with each consecutive album has given us something that we didn't even know we wanted to hear until they dished it up. Yea, I'm a fan, but you should be to given their track record.
So far I'd say that this is shaping up to be a damn good week for music. What's next? Bill Berry rejoining R.E.M.? (pleasepleasepleaseplease)
Oh noes!!!!! Radiohead's site is down? Is it all a trick. No new Radiohead for us!!!
