Sounds Like: Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes, The Love Language, Rusted Root without the annoying world music pretenses,
Why You Should Care: Quality vocals, and musicians managing to be smart and passionate at the same time.
Normally, when I hear that a musician or band has been inspired by “…an extensive trip through Central and South America,” it makes my butt cheeks clench. Like, what does that mean? Narco Corridos? Samba? Bossa Nova? That shitty rap music they do in the favelas? Did these guys all come back from the rain forest with didgeridoos and big wooden discs in their lips?
Fortunately, Miner seems to have left that stuff at customs. “Hey Love” is a solid straightforward parade route shuffle with quality lead vocals from Justin Miner, and quality harmonies from the rest of the band.
