Sounds Like: The Low Anthem, Sharon Van Etten
Why you should care: She's playing at IOTA TONIGHT so you get to see her up close and personal.
Portland, Oregon singer Gibson has been quietly building her audience since her 2006 release If You Come To Greet Me, and it looks like 2012 may be the year that that audience starts to get bigger. A lot bigger.
On her new album, La Grande, Gibson made sure to stay true to the insightful, heartfelt/heartstrung spirit of her earlier material, but also managed to expand her sound well beyond it's previous borders. Recruiting members of Calexico, The Dodos and The Decemberists to help add a slightly experimental sheen to her music, Gibson finds herself pushing up against the conventions of what we expect a folk song to be.
Check out the gorgeous single, "Milk Heavy, Pollen Eyed", from La Grande below, and let us know what you think.
And remember, Gibson will be playing at IOTA in Arlington TONIGHT, so make sure you come out and join us as we check out her music first hand, up close and personal like.
