TRACKING: Diamond Doves - "To Life"

SOUNDS LIKE: Elvis Perkins In Dearland, Dr. Dog
WHY YOU SHOULD CARE: Elvis Perkins In Dearland minus Elvis Perkins = Diamond Doves!

It’s been three years since the eponymous Elvis Perkins In Dearland came out, and ever since then the question has been where’s the follow up? While no one knows what Perkins himself is up to, the three men behind him that make up In Dearland go by another name I learned recently. And that name is Diamond Doves.

The band has spent the better part of the last year recording their debut album, Eat Your Heart Out, and it shall be ready for public consumption soon. In the meantime, we have “To Life,” an uplifting song that doesn’t sound too far off the path to Dearland, save if they were more electronic than they were folk. There’s excellent harmonies, fiddles, and stabs of saxophone as the band sings to life and to a reality where not only are they good being someone’s back up band but also a standout act all on their own.
