SOUNDS LIKE: The best soundtrack to the best movie that’s never been made. Mogwai, Explosions in ihe Sky, Sigur Ros, David Gilmour, the inside of Kurosawa’s head.
WHY YOU SHOULD CARE: This now practically legendary band has come all the way from Japan to rock your fucking face with, *GASP*, actual insane musicianship, and lots and lots of guitar. Did we mention guitar?
Formed in 1999, this Japanese four piece has built a reputation of not just delivering crushing live performances all across the globe, but for crafting minor post-rock masterpieces that pull as much from the works of Sonic Youth as they do classical composers from Beethoven all the way up to Ennio Morricone. In 2004, the band gained notoriety in the U.S. when they teamed up with uber-producer Steve Albini, with whom they have recorded every album until this year’s sprawling and majestic For Our Children.
“Dream Odyssey” is the first single/video to see the light of day from MONO’s latest release and it finds the quartet exploring a mellower, more cosmic side of their oeuvre while still managing to pack an emotional wallop that is amplified to infinity by the image of one lonely astronaut floating through the abyss while the universe goes on around him.
Mono brings the rock and awe to the Rock N Roll Hotel TONIGHT. Tickets are still available right HERE
