John McCauley is the boy your mother wanted you to meet. Or at least that's what he claims in "Ashamed," the opening track to Deer Tick's 2007 debut album War Elephant. And, hey, as the frontman of a band that's gone from playing a zoo in middle-of-nowhere, Louisiana (where I first saw them) to hosting sold-out Newport Folk Festival after-parties, he just might be right! (But when you introduce him to momma, be sure not to mention his mistress: booze.)
Next weekend, before getting into the summer festival swing, Deer Tick play Flying Dog Brewery in Frederick, MD as part of the brewery's outdoor summer concert series. At the show, Flying Dog will showcase their obscure, rare, and experimental beers, which will surely keep McCauley and co. as well as everyone else in attendance well-hydrated. For your chance to get your drink on with Deer Tick while listening to their rawktastic alt-country tunes from War Elephant (2007), Born on Flag Day (2009), The Black Dirt Sessions (2010), and Divine Providence (2011), please do one of the following:
