Ever wondered what it would be like to go on a date with Christopher Owens? Attending his upcoming unplugged, seated show at 9:30 Club on Sunday, January 27 will give you a good idea!
The former Girls frontman is touring in support of his solo album, Lysandre, which chronicles Girls' first tour, on which Owens met and fell in love with a woman in France. Lysandre's personal, diary-like nature coupled with an intimate live setting will surely make for a magical evening. (Candles and rose petals not included.)
If, however, you expect Owens to play Girls songs...don't hold your breath. In an interview last month with Pitchfork, Owens explained that performing songs from his old project on his current solo tour "would be almost disrespectful, maybe depressing." Instead, concertgoers can expect to hear most, if not all, of Lysandre (since it has a running time of only about twenty-eight minutes), cover songs, and stage banter from Owens, who is known for being quite the storyteller.
To get a feel of what the show will be like, here's Owens playing an acoustic version of the album's title track, "Lysandre," in a bathtub:
