Let's get this out of the way: Ryan Adams is a prissy little bitch. He whines, cries, cancels shows..strike that..WALKS OUT of shows in the middle of them, will not shut up on the internet (if you don't believe me check out his blog sometime), and in general would probably be the most annoying person you know if you knew him. BUT!!!! He is also more talented than not only anybody reading this but more talented than anyone anybody reading this knows, so he's got that going for him.  There were lots of albums I COULD have picked by Ryan Adams...he's prolific as s@#@...but this album is is first one, and arguably his best. It moves from country rockers to the sweetest, highest, lonesomest (word?) ballads and back effortlessly. Listen to "Shakedown On 9th Street" and tell me you don't feel like you just got in a fight over you lady. You can't, because you will. Put on "Oh My Sweet Carolina" and try not to long for your hometown and/or youth. You can't, because you will. Adams had a lot of help on this album, David Rawlings and Gillian Welch were some of that help, and it all added up to a collection of songs that are required listening if you are even a casual fan of countryish music, great songwriting, or just setting a great damn mood by putting on an album and listening to it all the way through. If this winds up doing it for you, I HIGHLY recommend checking out some of his other releases, "Cold Roses" and "Jacksonville City Nights" in particular, to hear more of what this guy is capable of. HIGHLY recommend.

Next up: Tomorrow I'm gonna throw all my drugs away.
