DAY 2: THE EAGLES - DESPERADO

A running gag throughout the film "The Big Lebowski" is how much he hates the Eagles, but it wasn't funny to me...you know why???

I F@#@ING LOVE THE EAGLES!!!!!

That's right. I said it. And I mean it. Growing up in Lynchburg in the 80's there was a decidedly small range of music to choose from and apparently when I was very young and spun the dial and The Eagles was what it landed on. Should YOU love The Eagles? I don't know. I mean, when I was 12 it was quite literally how I thought the world out west MUST be and that being grown up in any world that was like that would be totally fu@#ing awesome...and admittedly it's nothing like that, but there is still a small part of me that would like to see Henley and Fry's version of America in the 70's. One that can't decide if it wants to be the wild west (seriously...LOOK at that album cover) or some never ending losers party up in Laurel Canyon (seriously..they are always so sad...cheer up guys!)...or if it wants to be BOTH. Either way their music is super groovy and the result of excess that us mere mortals can't possibly imagine and, I proudly admit, is a part of my DNA. If I ever find it in me to write a song as fantastic as Tequila Sunrise (or any song on this album really..except "Out of Control"...that sort of blows) then I'll know I've succeeded.

Next up: It may take you 10 years to "get it"
